According to a report from New York Injury News online, Crocetti’s Oakdale Packing Co., known as South Shore Meats, Inc., and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have recalled 1,039 lbs of ground beef “for possible contamination of E.coli [.]” The Boston Globe is reporting that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health stated 20 children and adults have possibly fallen ill due to consuming contaminated meat at Camp Bournedale, in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
South Shore Meats Co., of Brockton, Massachusetts voluntarily recalled several products that could possibly contain contaminated beef. So far no deaths have been linked to the company’s products. Earlier today this blog posted about a different outbreak of E.coli0157:H7 that was linked to ground beef from a New York company. That outbreak has resulted in the death of one New Hampshire resident.
The same strain of E.coli that was found in the South Shore Meats Co. products has also been linked to two children suffering from gastrointestinal sickness who ate the contaminated meat. Massachusetts and Rhode Island officials are continuing their investigation of the outbreak alongside officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
