Center for Food Safety Releases Newsletter

The Center for Food Safety at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, has just released its first newsletter. As you may have guessed, this issue, and the quarterly issues to follow, will focus on the broad topic and issues of food safety. If you have an interest in the wide, encompassing topic of food safety, then the newsletter and the Center's work is something you should consider checking into.

As their website states, it is the Center for Food Safety's (CFS) mission "to conduct research on the safety and quality of food products with a focus on biological, chemical and physical hazards. The CFS is dedicated to the development and utilization of advanced research technologies and to the communication of research findings to assist in building public confidence in the protection, safety, quality and nutritional value of food products." The Center is comprised of "an interdisciplinary group of faculty, postdoctoral associate and graduate students."

The first newsletter contains a study on how to minimize Listeria contamination by deli slicers, the newsletter discusses the upcoming conference put together by the Arkansas Association for Food Protection, there is an article on the 'Culture of Food Safety' and its importance, and there is news on food workshops hosted by the University of Arkansas, as well as other news and publication announcements related to food safety.
